My Husband Insisted on Hiring a Cute Young Nanny While I Was on a Business Trip — He Didn’t Know I Had Installed Surveillance Cameras

Kevin gave me images of Lucy laughing and Sarah doing well. I kept checking CCTV footage as time went on. I checked the CCTV footage before bed after a long and tiring work trip.

Was stunned by what I saw. Lucy lay on the floor, gasping at night. Sarah sat alongside her, helping, as Kevin cried on the bed.

My heart raced. Kevin didn’t answer when I called him right away. I felt helpless and far from home as I watched the tape and panicked.

After 30 minutes, my phone rang. It was Kevin. With shaky voice, I answered instantly.

Kevin, what’s up? Lucy—what happened?”

“Hayley, calm down,” Kevin shakily said. Lucy had a bad episode.

She couldn’t breathe, and I froze. Unable to move. Panic attack.”

I heard his pain in his voice.

“You froze? Why was Sarah there?”

“Lucy was colicky and wailing. Sarah calmed her, so I had her stay overnight.

Lucy had problems breathing at night. Sarah knew what to do while I panicked. Hayley, she saved Lucy.”

I inhaled to comprehend his words.

“How is Lucy now?”

She’s fine. Sarah moved rapidly. She was calm and did everything perfectly.

I was useless, Hayley. “I lay crying,” Kevin said, his voice breaking. I felt relieved Lucy was okay, grateful to Sarah, and guilty for doubting her.

“Thanks, Kevin, for telling me. I’m relieved Lucy’s okay.”

“We’re taking her to the doctor first thing in the morning to make sure everything’s okay,” he said. “Good.

Yes, good. “I’ll catch the earliest flight home,” I answered, wanting to see my family. I got a flight home the next morning.

I ran to Lucy and grabbed her as soon as I entered. She laughed, ignorant of our scare. Kevin walked over, fatigued yet relieved to see me.

“Hayley, I’m so sorry you had to find out that way.”

Kevin, it’s okay. I hugged him hard, saying Lucy’s safety was most vital. Sarah entered the room hesitantly.

“Hi, Hayley. I’m sorry for everything. Did my best to help Lucy.”

I turned to her, crying.

Thank you, Sarah. I appreciate your support of Lucy and Kevin. Not sure what we’d do without you.”

Sarah grinned, relieved.

“I’m just glad she’s okay.”

As time went on, I kept thinking about everything. Sarah showed her worth in unexpected ways. Thinking back, I was wrong to doubt her.

Our family needed her more than a babysitter in a crisis. I sat with Sarah one night with Kevin. “Sarah, we’ve been talking, and we want to offer you a permanent position with us,” he stated.

Sarah seemed astonished but happy. “Really? Would adore that.

Lucy is dear to me.”

“We can see that,” I smiled. “You’ve become a part of our family, Sarah.”

Kevin and I took time to ponder after adjusting to Sarah as a permanent member of our household. Kevin and I enjoyed a nice moment on the couch a few days later as Lucy slept peacefully in her cot.

“Kevin,” I broke the pleasant silence. I appreciate your insistence in hiring Sarah. What would we have done without her?”

Kevin softened when he saw me.

Hayley, I was terrified too. I doubted my choice, but Sarah proved herself.”

I nodded, recalling that awful night. “She went further.

She rescued Lucy. I’m grateful and sorry for doubting her.”

Kevin grabbed my hand. “This taught us a lot.

It’s hard to trust someone with our child, but Sarah proved it.”

“I know,” I said, grasping his hand. “I also learned how vital trust is. We’re stronger after our struggles.”

Kevin grinned.

You’re right. Now we have a family member who cares about Lucy.”

Just then, Sarah entered, looking uncertain. “Hey, I just wanted to check if you guys needed anything before I head to bed.”

“No, we’re good, Sarah,” I responded, beaming.

I appreciate everything you do. We value you.”

Sarah grinned, relieved. The pleasure is mine.

Goodnight, Hayley. Goodnight, Kevin.”

“Goodnight, Sarah,” Kevin and I said. Kevin twinkled at me as Sarah went upstairs.

“You know, Hayley, we’re pretty lucky.”

I rested my head on his shoulder, happy. “We are. I wouldn’t swap our small family.”

Kevin kissed my head.

“Here’s to us, and to trusting each other more.”

I repeated “To us,” feeling love and thankfulness. Sarah continued to care for Lucy well, and Kevin and I trusted her more each day. I appreciated the folks in our home, which was full of laughing and joy.

After a terrifying encounter, I learned about trust, forgiveness, and giving people the benefit of the doubt. Sarah became an essential member of our family and strengthened us. Life continued with its ups and downs, but we faced each day knowing we could count on each other.

And that changed everything.
