Leaving my one-year-old daughter with a young nanny for a month-long business trip was scary. When I installed hidden cameras to calm my fears, I never anticipated they would film a moment that redefined trust and family for me. Hi guys, I’m Hayley, and I’ll tell a relationship trust tale.
A little background on our family. My husband Kevin operates a small business, and I work remotely. Lucy, our 1-year-old daughter, is lovely.
Lucy lights up our lives and provides us joy daily. Working from home let me be with her 24/7, which I treasured. Recently, my boss invited me on a business vacation.
It was a terrific career move, but it required a month away from home. Our first nanny for Lucy was needed. Kevin and I were anxious but felt it was necessary.
Kevin and I sat at the kitchen table with stacks of nanny applications one night after Lucy went to bed. Kevin, we need a dependable person. Someone who loves Lucy as much as we do “I sorted the papers.
Kevin nodded thoughtfully. I know, Hayley. The correct person will be found.
Start with these top contenders.”
Our home hosted interviews for a few hopefuls. We wanted to see their Lucy interactions. Amanda, 48, was the first candidate and experienced.
She smiled warmly and calmly. “Hi Amanda. Thanks for coming “I shook her hand.
“This is Lucy.”
Amanda bent to Lucy’s level and grinned. Hello, Lucy. Aren’t you cute?” Lucy clutched her favorite plush rabbit, inquisitive but shy.
Amanda’s interview went nicely. Her intelligence and kindness were impressive, but Lucy didn’t warm up to her soon. Then we met 22-year-old medical student Sarah.
Sarah brightened up the room with her infectious enthusiasm and bright smile. My name is Sarah. “Nice to meet you all,” she remarked, beaming at Lucy.
“Hi, Sarah. This is Lucy “I introduced, observing. Sarah knelt and played peek-a-boo with Lucy.
Lucy laughed and reached for Sarah, her face beaming. Kevin and I glanced. “I think she likes you,” Kevin grinned.
Sarah chuckled. She’s cute! I want to look after her.”
Kevin liked Sarah despite my misgivings about hiring someone so young and gorgeous.
She’s fantastic with Lucy, Hayley. Look at her joy, Kevin said. “But she’s young, Kevin.
Does she have adequate experience?” I questioned, hiding my uneasiness. Her goal is to become a doctor. She’s knowledgeable and capable.
“She’ll be great,” Kevin said, looking at me. Finally, we hired Sarah. Lucy bonded more with Kevin’s infectious excitement.
I couldn’t shake my worries. After Kevin went to bed, I stealthily installed house surveillance cameras the night before my vacation. I did it to protect Lucy and give myself peace of mind while abroad.
In the living room, Lucy’s nursery, and kitchen, I put one each. Kevin saw my uneasiness the next morning when I left. “Are you okay, Hayley?” he hugged me.
“I’m just going to miss you both so much,” I hugged him. We’ll be alright. Kevin comforted me by saying Sarah had everything under control.
“And I’ll call you every day.”
“Thanks, Kevin. I kissed him farewell, trusting him. First few days of travel went well.
