Emily always felt uneasy around her sister-in-law, Jessica, who had a way of making her feel small. While Emily and her husband, Mark, were struggling financially after his job loss, Jessica lived a lavish lifestyle and loved showing it off. When Jessica hosted a family potluck, she insisted everyone bring “luxury” foods like caviar, imported chocolates, and gourmet wine.
Emily couldn’t afford it, so she prepared a homemade casserole using her grandmother’s recipe—a dish that had always been a family favorite.
