Standing before him was not the woman he had spent the last two years with. The face beneath the veil belonged to someone else — similar, yet a stranger. For a moment, he thought it was a prank, but the woman in front of him softly whispered:

Later it turned out that the real bride had been in a car accident on her way to the church and couldn’t contact anyone — her phone was destroyed.
Her sister decided to take her place so the ceremony wouldn’t be canceled and to avoid a scandal. She hoped it would end as a simple symbolic ritual, and afterward she would explain everything. The groom stood in shock, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
The guests began to whisper, and the priest looked around in confusion, unsure what to do. At that moment, the door swung open — and in the doorway stood the real bride, her arm bandaged and tears streaming down her face. — I’m sorry… I’m late… — she said.
The church filled with gasps and murmurs. The groom remained silent for a long time, then stepped toward her, removed the ring from the stand-in’s finger, and, smiling, said:
— Now everything is as it should be.
