I was startled to discover that my mother-in-law and husband were discussing me when I unintentionally caught their conversation. What they said surprised me. Although she lived in the village, my mother-in-law lately had some business in the city.
She requested to spend a few days with us over the phone. Naturally, we both agreed that it was a typical family situation and nothing out of the ordinary. It all began quite quietly.
We had dinner together in the evening, after which I showered in the restroom. My mother-in-law and my husband remained in the room, having a pleasant conversation. It was something I ignored.
However, after turning on the water, I realized that I had neglected to grab a fresh towel from the bedroom. I had to leave. I made an effort to move silently so as not to interrupt their talk.
But I heard voices as soon as I got close to the door. After that, I had a weird impression that my mother-in-law was talking about me in a low, nearly whispery voice. – Did you follow my instructions exactly, son?
– Yes, Mom,” said the husband in a low voice. – She has no suspicions, does she? – No, she lacks sufficient intelligence.
Recognize that this is crucial for our family. You have to follow my instructions exactly. I clutched the towel to my chest as I froze in the doorway.
Initially, I had no idea what they were discussing. I thought it was a trivial matter, or perhaps I misheard. However, the more they conversed, the colder the interior become.
I rushed out of the room in panic as soon as I realized what they were talking about. They talked about me. My confidence.
And worst of all, my home. My husband had been sneaking me documents to sign for a long time, it turned out. I assumed these were standard paperwork, such as contracts, receipts, and little household items.
In actuality, however, these documents also included property paperwork. We now resided in my home, which I inherited from my parents. I learned that my husband’s sister was experiencing severe financial difficulties.
And she and my mother-in-law concluded that selling my house was the wisest course of action. Furthermore, I wasn’t even supposed to be aware of how it would occur. It appeared to be a well-planned scheme, and my own husband was part of it.
I felt the world collapsing beneath me as I remained motionless, listening to every word. I feared they would hear my heart thumping through the door because it was so loud. And at that moment I realized: my life will never be the same again.
