What the hell do you think you’re doing?” the young man shouted, grabbing Tom by the collar and pinning him to the sunbed. The blonde jumped back, shrieking. Tom’s face drained of color.
“I—I can explain!”
“Explain what? That you’re messing with my girlfriend?” the man barked, tightening his grip. Tom stammered, “Please, let’s not make a scene.
I’ll pay you—how much do you want?”
The guy looked disgusted. “You think you can pay your way out of this?” He drew his fist back, ready to swing. I couldn’t help it—I pulled out my phone and began recording.
This was too incredible not to capture. “Please, don’t hit me. I’m sorry!” Tom whimpered.
The young man’s anger softened into contempt. He shoved Tom away. “You’re not worth it.”
Tom slumped, looking pathetic.
I stopped recording and walked over, feeling a dark satisfaction. “Lisa, it’s not what it looks like,” Tom started, his voice shaky. “Oh, really?
So you weren’t just getting cozy with another woman?” I snapped, holding up my phone. “I’ve got the whole thing on video.”
His expression collapsed. “Lisa, please.
Let’s talk.”
“There’s nothing to talk about. We’re done. I’m divorcing you,” I said coldly.
But it didn’t end there. The car ride home was silent. He kept glancing at me, but I wouldn’t meet his eyes.
I was done. Betrayal, humiliation, anger—they swirled together in my mind like a bad dream I couldn’t wake from. At home, he finally spoke.
“Lisa, I’m sorry. It won’t happen again,” he said desperately, his eyes red. I stood firm.
“I don’t care. You broke my trust, Tom. It’s gone.”
“We can fix this,” he pleaded, stepping closer.
I backed away. “No, Tom. I’m done.”
His desperation hardened into anger.
“This is your fault!” he shouted. “You’ve become so distant. You pushed me to this!”
I stared in disbelief.
“You’re blaming me for your cheating?”
“Yes! You’re not the woman I married. You made me feel unwanted.
What did you expect?” he shot back. That was the final straw. I opened the video and, with a few taps, sent it straight to his boss.
“Let’s see how he feels about his daughter being in this video,” I said. Tom’s eyes went wide. “Lisa, no!” he yelled, lunging for my phone, but it was already sent.
The consequences came quickly—by the next day, Tom was fired. His boss was furious about the scandal involving his daughter. Tom came home looking hollow and defeated, begging me to reconsider.
I didn’t. I filed for divorce, feeling more free than I had in years. His betrayal had destroyed our marriage, but it also released me from it.
For the first time in a long time, I looked forward to rediscovering myself.
