My breath hitched as I moved closer. Some of the photos were candid shots, clearly taken without the subjects’ knowledge.
My heart pounded louder with each step until I saw something that made my blood run cold.
There, in the center of the board, was a photo of me.
Not just any photo—a picture I didn’t even know existed, taken from across the street as I left my apartment weeks ago.
The Shocking Realization

I grabbed Buddy’s collar and dashed out of the room, slamming the door behind me. Evan shouted, but I didn’t stop. I sprinted to the front door, fumbling with the lock as my hands shook uncontrollably.
Finally, the door gave way, and I bolted into the hallway, dragging Buddy with me.
I didn’t stop running until I was safely inside my car, the doors locked, and my heart still racing.

I never went back to Evan’s apartment. I blocked his number and filed a report with the police, handing over everything I could remember about that night. They assured me they would investigate.
In the weeks that followed, I kept thinking about Buddy—how he tried to warn me, how his instincts picked up on something I refused to see.
