My Sister Demanded I Do Hair & Makeup for Her and 6 Bridesmaids On Her Wedding Day — Then She Ghosted Me on Payment

“I am. You asked me because you know I’m good. But if you keep fidgeting, it won’t look right.”

She leaned back with a sigh.

“Whatever. Just fix it. I need to look flawless.”

I took a deep breath, picked up the brush, and kept going.

Finally, she looked at herself and gasped, “I look like a star.”

The bridesmaids crowded around, adjusting dresses and fussing with bouquets. Sabrina twirled in front of the mirror, basking in the compliments. The photographer snapped away, the room buzzing with chatter and perfume.

When it was time to leave, the bridal party rushed out in a flurry of satin and lace. I stood back with my assistant, exhausted but proud. Sabrina barely glanced at me, though I overheard her whisper to a bridesmaid, “Good thing she finally got it right.”

The ceremony went off without a hitch.

The aisle glowed with flowers, and music filled the air as guests watched Sabrina glide down in her gown. From afar, I saw heads turn, admiring her hair and flawless makeup. Every detail I’d worked on shone under the lights.

At the reception, guests clapped and cheered. Some bridesmaids quietly thanked me, saying, “We loved our looks.” I smiled, but Sabrina never acknowledged me or credited me as the artist. She danced, laughed, and posed for photos, as if our earlier tension never happened.

By the end of the night, I was drained but certain I’d delivered everything she wanted. I went home expecting prompt payment, since she’d promised. The next day, I texted her about the payment.

No response. Days passed. Finally, she replied.

Her words stunned me: “Lol, I’m not paying. Family shouldn’t charge family. Plus, think of the exposure from the photos.”

I reminded her of her promise, that I’d brought an assistant, that I’d given her a huge discount.

She ghosted me. I felt betrayed. My trust was shattered.

But I didn’t know what was coming for her. Days later, my phone rang. Sabrina’s voice was frantic.

“You have to help me! It’s a disaster!”

Karma had already caught up with her. I asked flatly, “Who’s ‘they’?”

Her words spilled out.

“The stylists I hired for another event after the wedding. They butchered my hair—it’s uneven, fried, falling out! And my makeup’s blotchy—I look awful in every photo!”

Her desperation echoed through the line.

She begged, “Please, Tricia. I need you. I know I said I wouldn’t pay, but this is different.

Everyone saw me like this. People are laughing. I can’t live with these pictures.”

I took a slow breath.

“Sabrina, I gave you my best work on your wedding day. You looked stunning. You promised to pay, then refused.

You ghosted me when I followed up. And now, after choosing someone else, you expect me to fix their mess?”

She stammered, “But… you’re my sister. You’re supposed to help me.

Isn’t that what family does?”

My grip on the phone tightened, but my voice stayed calm. “I was your sister when I woke up at dawn to do your hair and makeup. I was your sister when I charged you pennies for hours of work.

I was your sister when I made you feel like a star. And you still walked all over me. No, Sabrina.

Not this time.”

Her sobs grew louder. “Tricia, please. I’m begging.

I can’t go out like this again. I need you.”

I shook my head, though she couldn’t see. “You’ll have to find someone else.

I’m done.”

There was a long pause, just her crying. I hung up before she could say more. For the first time in years, I felt no guilt—only relief.

But it didn’t end there. The next day, my mother called, her tone sharp. “Tricia, I talked to Sabrina.

She’s upset. She says you refused to help when she needed you. Can’t you just let this go and fix things for her?”

I closed my eyes, gripping the phone.

“Mom, I showed up for her. I worked hours on her wedding day for almost nothing. I did everything she asked, and she refused to pay.

That’s not a mistake. That’s a choice.”

She sighed. “Still, she’s your sister.

Family should be there for each other.”

My voice stayed steady. “I’ve always kept the peace. I’ve taken the blame, stayed quiet, and sacrificed too much.

But not anymore. Sabrina broke her word, and I won’t fix her problems again.”

Silence hung on the line. I didn’t waver.

When I hung up, something had shifted. I was done mixing business with family. And I’d never make that mistake again.
